First 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Auctioned Off For $3.6 Million
It has become a tradition at the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction to present the first production model of a special vehicle on the block. These “VIN 001” vehicles usually fetch extraordinary sales figures, but always for a good cause.
This year was no exception. The first retail 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition model came across the block. When the gavel fell, it was sold for $3.6 million – a record figure for a first retail edition of any vehicle sold for charity at Barrett-Jackson.
Proceeds of the sale will go to Operation Homefront. This organization provides assistance and support to military families who are going through financial hardships towards thriving in the communities they live in. Communities benefit through building strong, stable, and secure military families who live within them. Chevrolet has been a proud sponsor of Operation Homefront since 2017.
The first mid-engine 2023 Corvette Z06 was driven onto the block by racing legend Oliver Gavin. The British driver was a part of four victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Corvette Racing. He also won an IMSA championship in the GTLM class behind the wheel of a Corvette back in 2016.
Rick Hendrick, the chairman and CEO of Hendrick Motorsports out of Concord, North Carolina, made the winning bid. His team won 14 NASCAR Cup Series championships and has been known as a strong bidder at Barrett-Jackson. The VIN 001 will most likely come back to our state in Hendrick’s collection.
At 670 horsepower, the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the most powerful naturally-aspirated version of America’s Sports Car. It is capable of sprinting from 0-to-60 MPH in just 2.6 seconds. It can hit the redline at 8,600 RPM – the highest in Corvette history.
