Performance

The Corvette Stingray gets a naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 making up to 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque with the available Z51 package. The Z06 has a unique 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 that cranks out 670 horsepower and 460 pounds of torque, and makes a heart-pounding roar while doing it. The all-wheel drive E-Ray has 655 horsepower from its 6.2-liter V8 and electric motor. 

While the Corvette line’s power output ratings reach the stratosphere in the Z06 and E-Ray configurations, the “basic” Stingray is more than powerful enough for the average enthusiast. It’s capable of a 0-60 mph time of less than three seconds with the available Z51 package. The Z06 cuts that number to just 2.6 seconds, and the AWD E-Ray shaves another tenth off of that number for a scorching 2.5-second 0-60 mph time.

Of course, engine specs and acceleration are important for any sports car, but the Corvette’s performance goes beyond the engine. The Z06 is available with a carbon aero package for maximum downforce, and Chevy offers adaptive magnetic suspension upgrades for all models. The E-Ray can also run for short distances on electric only, thanks to its front-axle-mounted electric motor. 

Exterior

The move to a mid-engine layout for the Corvette brought new opportunities from a styling and design standpoint. Chevy morphed the Corvette’s long, sleek body into a new, equally impressive shape that features a low hood and muscular rear end to house the roaring V8 powertrains. The Z06 and E-Ray feature widebody designs with gaping air intakes and beefy rear fenders, while the Stingray’s shape is a bit friendlier. All models look and feel aggressive, even while sitting still, however, so don’t start thinking the Stingray is tame. Wheel sizes are staggered, with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels standard. The Z06 and E-Ray get 20/21-inch wheels.

Interior

The Corvette retained its iconic two-seat layout with the move to mid-engine, and its interior is easily one of the nicest in Chevy’s lineup. A unique flat top/bottom steering wheel highlights the tech-packed cabin, which offers two deep, heavily-bolstered sport seats. Chevy offers a range of color options and for the E-Ray, a special blue interior theme. The large plank of buttons remains mounted between the driver and passenger, and all controls and buttons are canted toward the driver for a more focused experience. 

Chevy equips an 8-inch touchscreen and 12-inch digital gauge cluster as standard equipment. The system brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, 10 speakers, and more. Higher trims add navigation, wireless phone charging, and an upgraded 14-speaker stereo. Though the 8-inch screen isn’t the largest, it’s a responsive unit with bright, crisp graphics. Snappy operation aside, Chevy’s infotainment software is intuitive and quick to use, making it less distracting to use while driving. 

Safety

Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have tested the Corvette yet, either due to its newness on the market or because the costs associated with crashing sports cars is too great. It comes standard with a rear parking assistance system, and Chevy offers a range of advanced driver aids, including blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, a head-up display, forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera system, and more.
