2024 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss Side View

Chevrolet is known for its trucks, as it is one of the oldest pickup truck brands in the world. Having brought their first pickup truck to market in 1933, they revolutionized the pickup market by offering smooth sides with no fender flares, a standard feature up until that point. They went even further by offering dual sun visors, something we no doubt take for granted these days. The all-new Colorado continues the trend of bringing new features and amenities to a crowded market. With a high-output 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, there isn’t much that can stand in the way of you and your destination.

Autoblog.com Review

As one of the oldest, largest, and most respected online automotive news and review sites, Autoblog.com is serious about its love for the Chevrolet Colorado, saying, “The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado stands tall as our favorite midsize pickup truck this year for a host of reasons. For one, it drives exceedingly well with a stout engine, solid ride and superb off-road variants for whatever use case. The interior is jam-packed with tech that both looks great and works even better … a base Colorado Work Truck can be had at a respectably low price if you’re just looking for what the name implies: a work truck.”

Trim Levels & Power

Buyers can choose from five different trim levels when selecting a 2024 Colorado, including WT (Work Truck), LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and the legendary ZR2. WT and LT models are standard with 2WD and have available 4WD, while the rest of the lineup comes standard with 4WD. The base WT and LT models feature a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, they are available with the 2.7-liter TurboMax engine that puts out 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. All other trim levels come standard with the TurboMax. All models also have an 8-speed automatic transmission.

What Autoblog Loved

Autoblog found themselves enjoying the ride quality and driving characteristics that make each trim level a little different, saying, “This body-on-frame pickup on its base/street-oriented trims with rear leaf springs comports itself well in terms of both ride and handling. It’s reasonably composed, comfortable and civilized … Meanwhile, the ZR2 with its giant tires and Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers completely changes the game in terms of ride quality. It’s going to be the best performer both on and off the road. And if you truly want the best off-road performance, there’s the ZR2 Bison that takes things even further.”

2024 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss Truck Bed StorageCargo Creativity

The Colorado is available with one bed size that is 5’1”, and Autoblog.com found it to be incredibly useful, saying, “The bed itself might look like a regular pickup’s bed at first glance, but its tailgate is hiding a neat storage trick. A shallow bin of sorts on the inside of it can be flipped up and small items stowed in there. We could see it being helpful for things you always want on hand but don’t want flying around the bed, and possibly even convenient for tailgate parties as an additional place to put things.”

Interior Tech

It wasn’t just the ride and neat features of the bed that caught Autoblog’s attention. They raved about the standard 11-inch digital gauge cluster screen and the standard 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google Built-in, allowing it to run Google Maps natively. But, as Autoblog noted, Chevrolet balanced the amount of screenscape with the right amount of knobs: “The cabin isn’t all screens, though, as Chevy sticks with hard buttons/knobs for vital items like climate controls, drive modes and volume control. A hefty, traditional PRNDL shifter is slotted in the center console; there is plenty of space in both the cupholders and door pockets for your beverage necessities.”

2024 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Towing

Towing Capacity

With its towing capacity of 7,700 lbs when properly equipped, the Colorado is one of the best in its segment. This means buyers shouldn’t worry about what the Colorado lacks or can’t do but instead what extra hobbies they’re going to add to their lives to fully enjoy the abilities of their award-winning mid-size Chevy truck.

Safety First

While the overall utility of a pickup truck is important, it’s not all the Colorado does well. With standard Chevy Safety Assist, the midsize truck features Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic high-beam assist. Plus, all trim levels are available with Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, HD Surround Vision, and Rear Pedestrian Alert.
