Equinox EV vs. Blazer EV Which Is Better For you
General Motors has expanded its EV lineup across most of its brands, but Chevy has introduced three new electric models in the last couple of years and will likely see at least one more in the next two years. Two of its most recent releases, the Equinox EV and Blazer EV, share some of their underlying engineering and components. However, there are fundamental differences between them that could make a real difference in your daily driving experience. This article will cover some of the differences between them and give you an idea of which EV will best fit into your driving routine.
Size
While the two EVs look somewhat similar from the outside, there are significant differences in their size. The Blazer has a 5.5-inch wider wheelbase and is almost two inches longer overall. Those dimensions will make the Blazer more stable on the highway and give it a smoother ride quality. However, its larger exterior dimensions don’t give it better interior space in all areas. The Equinox EV offers more cargo space behind the second-row seats, but the Blazer EV has more with the rear seats folded flat.
Performance
The Blazer EV comes standard with two electric motors making a combined 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque. That setup provides a 0-60 mph time of around six seconds and a range of up to 279 miles. The Blazer EV RS RWD has a single electric motor making 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, and it offers a more extended driving range of 314 miles.
The Equinox EV’s base setup comes with a single electric motor making 213 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It’s available with AWD, which adds a rear motor for a combined 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque. The uprated configuration also has a 5.9-second 0-60 mph time. The range for single-motor variants is estimated at 319 miles, while dual-motor models should see 285 miles.
Value and Features
The Blazer EV is more expensive to start at just over $50,000, while the Equinox EV is just over $40,000 before incentives. However, both vehicles are eligible for federal tax credits that can make them significantly cheaper. The Blazer is worth the extra money for people needing more space or performance. At the same time, the Equinox is a better choice for entry-level buyers or people wanting a relatively straightforward electric commuter vehicle.
No matter which of these vehicles you choose, you’ll get GM’s excellent Ultium EV technology and an extended warranty. Both models offer stronger-than-expected performance, and while the Blazer EV is quicker to 60 mph in its most potent configuration, neither vehicle feels sluggish.
