The heavily changed 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD made its public debut at the State Fair of Texas September 2022 and more information has been coming in since. Production is anticipated to begin the first half of 2023, with anticipated transit to Dieffenbach Superstore inventory around summer 2023. Delivered with the presence of major changes to the exterior, interior, drivetrain, and technology.

2500HD and 3500HD models will be available in Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab configurations. The 3500HD is available with dual rear wheels which enables a maximum towing capacity of 36,000 pounds. The 2024 Silverado HD trim levels include:

  • Work Truck
  • Custom
  • LT
  • LTZ,
  • High Country
  • ZR2 – First time ever as an HD

Enhanced Powertrains

Since the purpose of an HD pickup centers around power and capability, let’s start with that. While the two available engines continue to be the standard 6.6-liter V-8 gas engine and the available 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V-8, the latter has been massaged to produce more efficient combustion, enhancing overall performance. Low-end torque is up 25% for improved performance at low speeds or climbing grades, particularly when trailering. The final result is the Duramax producing 470 hp and an industrial 975 lb-ft of torque.

Harnessing that power is the proven Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, but the big news is that the Allison 10-speed is now also standard with the 6.6-liter gas-powered V-8, replacing the former 6-speed unit. The additional gear ratios keep the gas engine close to its power peak resulting in quicker on-demand power. Due to the transmission change, the gas engine Silverado HD’s Gross Combined Weight Rating increases from 24,000 to 26,000 pounds.

More Refined But Still Tough Exterior

It only takes a moment to realize that the Silverado and Silverado HD bodies are very different from one another.  In fact, the only shared component is the roof. While the truck is higher overall, the beltline is actually almost an inch lower. This results in significantly taller windows in the HD, enabling better outward visibility from within the cabin.

The 2024 Silverado HD has an all-new front-end appearance with a new grille, new headlights, and new C-shaped LED DRLs. LTZ, ZR2, and High Country models feature new dual-projector headlights in which the low and high beams are now split into dual functions, which creates an animated lighting sequence that has the truck welcome its owners or bid them farewell.

The Durabed cargo long box is a best-in-class 83.5 cubic feet and includes features such as the CornerStep rear bumper and BedSteps. The six-position Multi-Flex tailgate is available as is a 120-volt power outlet, and power tailgate.

Interior: Going upscale While Remaining Practical

All HD models are graced with a new interior establishing a luxury ambiance, even as it was designed for greater work-ready functionality, and next-level technology integration. LT, LTZ, and High Country models introduce a 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment display, the segment’s largest. Complementing the new display is a 12.3-inch configurable driver information center. Both the center display and controls are angled toward the driver, a design partially inspired by the C/K Series trucks of the 70s and 80s.

The onboard command center also includes a redesigned wireless phone charger area. A new flow-under console is designed to provide the spaciousness of a bench seat while retaining the functionality of a center console. Also available will be a configurable Head-Up display.

“It’s a more open-feeling and contemporary interior that passengers will find inviting,” said Phil Zak, executive director of Global Chevrolet Design. “It’s an environment that intentionally puts more at the driver’s fingertips, for a greater feeling of confidence and connection with the vehicle.”
