SlashGear Highlights Four Features on the Refreshed 2025 Suburban
The SlashGear website covered Chevrolet from both ends of the SUV spectrum in early August. One review focused on the entry-level Trax, and another on Chevrolet’s biggest product, the refreshed 2025 Suburban. They concentrated on four features that struck them about the large SUV model’s mid-cycle refresh, and Dieffenbach GM Superstore passes on what they found.
Big Screen Infotainment
SlashGear also reviews tech products, so, naturally, they were interested in the Suburban’s in-car technology. It is hard to miss anyway with the new standard 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The screen no longer sticks up on its own but is connected to the binnacle that contains the 11-inch digital gauge cluster. It is a big screen but also a big cabin, so it doesn’t look out of place. However, it is significantly larger than the 10.25-inch screen in the Jeep Wagoneer or the 13.2-inch screen in the Ford Expedition. Chevrolet revised the dash around its new screen, and it is an elegant look without being unnecessarily flashy.
More Powerful Duramax
The reviewers were particularly interested in the update of the Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 engine that first appeared in the 2024 Silverado. The engine received several updates, including a retuned turbo compressor, higher-flow fuel injectors, new steel pistons with revised piston-cooling oil jets, and improved temperature control features with the cooling system’s Active Thermal Management. This all adds up to a 28 horsepower increase to 305 with peak torque up by 35 lb-ft to 495. The induction system was also reworked along with more sound-deadening materials to render the engine quieter and more refined. Unfortunately, the Duramax will arrive after the 2025 model’s launch. In the meantime, the gas-powered 5.3 and 6.2-liter V8s carry on unchanged.
Smooth Riding
The Suburban already had a comfortable highway ride in part due to its long wheelbase, but for 2025, it received additional refinements to its independent multilink coil-spring rear suspension system. Chevrolet also fine-tuned the steering calibration for a more precise feel. For those who want an upgrade, the Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, previously only available on the Suburban Z71 and High Country models, is now available on the RST. The Magnetic Ride Control, which features dampers that can instantaneously change their firmness settings depending on conditions, is standard on Premier and High Country models and is available on the RST and Z71.
Additional Safety Features
It is easy to feel safe in a vehicle as large as a Suburban, and Chevrolet enhances that with plenty of safety technologies. The standard Chevy’s Safety Assist suite of driver-assist features consists of:
- Forward automatic emergency braking
- Forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection
- Lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist
- Automatic high-beam headlights
- Front and rear parking sensors
For 2025, an interior motion detector enhances the rear seat alert to ensure no one is left behind. There is also a Connected Camera System that lets you see all around the vehicle, even remotely, through your smartphone. GM’s industry-leading SuperCruise system will be available later in the year.
All this shows how Chevrolet’s big Suburban just keeps getting better and leading the category in the process. As of this writing, 2025 Suburbans haven’t arrived yet.
