What’s It Like to Experience A Blazer EV for A Week?
The first-ever 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is out and has been turning heads all over the streets. Journalists from multiple major publications have been singing the EV’s praises, including MotorTrend naming it their 2024 SUV of the Year. In a recent review by Tom’s Guide, they felt it was important to help buyers understand what it was really like to live with the all-electric Blazer for a week.
A Bad Start to A Positive Review
In the beginning part of the review, the author says he got stuck in some really bad traffic where a disabled bus in New York City’s Lincoln Tunnel made the first part of his trip in the Blazer abysmal. For 90 minutes, he averaged just 2.5 miles per kWh, which isn’t great. However, the drive got better as he said, “Luckily things got better, and by the time I was done with my test drive, I managed to get the efficiency up to 3.2 mi/kWh after driving a total distance of 429 miles. Considering the large size of this crossover SUV and weight, I was really impressed by the efficiency it was able to achieve.”
Trim Levels, Power, and Range
There are currently two trim levels and two drive types available for Blazer EV customers: the LT AWD, RS AWD, and RS RWD. The AWD models feature a dual-motor 85 kWh battery that produces 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque with an EPA-estimated 279 miles of driving range. The RS RWD comes with a single-motor 102 kWh battery that puts out 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque and has 324 miles of range.
The Absolute Best Part of the Blazer EV
Tom’s Guide was most impressed with the quality and amount of information displayed on the vehicle’s Head-Up Display, or HUD, with the journalist saying, “Easily the thing that impresses me the most about the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV RS AWD has to be its ginormous head-up display, which provides me details about my speed and navigation directions all on the windshield … This one stands out because it’s the largest and sharpest HUD I’ve come across in an EV to date … But yeah, I was not squinting to see all the useful details of the HUD like on other EVs.”
Charging Times for the Blazer EV
The Blazer can be charged either at home or on the go with a Level 2 7.7 kW, 240V charger that delivers 21 miles of range for every hour of charging or 31 miles of range for every hour on charge with an 11.5 kW, 240V charger. When charging via a Level 3 DC fast charger, the Chevy can add 80 miles of driving range in just 10 minutes in the RWD model and 68 miles in 10 minutes for AWD models.
No Need to Sacrifice Size for Style
Speaking of larger sizes, the Blazer EV is a genuinely good crossover SUV for many buyers as it features 25.8 cu.ft. of cargo space behind the rear seats when equipped with a sunroof (25.5 without a sunroof) and 59.8 cu.ft. when the rear seats are folded. Customers don’t have to choose between all the luxuries and amenities or practicality with the Blazer.
